Making music fun in east anglia

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Martlesham Brass has always held her in great esteem and we will miss her dedication and constant care for us.
We have followed her example of making our organisation open and welcoming to all.

We look to the future when we can celebrate her life and that of our new sovereign, King Charles III.

NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2005

Another month, another newsletter. Winter’s definitely upon us now, with the occasional cold morning and the promise of carolling looming on the horizon. School’s well and truly begun, and I hope that you’ve all settled into your new routine. As promised, carolling dates are here, although please bear with us on the bands. There’s a lot of fundraising to do over this very productive period, so as always we need your help. There’s also an all-new as-up-to-date-as-we-can-get-it events list so you’ll all be organised for the events. Until next month, Chris A

As always your band needs you! The Fund Raising Committee are looking for "new blood" in order to provide variation in the things that we do to take away your money. The present members of the committee work very hard on your behalf to raise funds at events and concerts. We are looking to expand membership in the hope that new ideas will also be forthcoming. If you have a couple of spare hours a month (and it really is not too much more time than this) and you would like to help the band raise fund then please have a chat with any of the present committee members or your band leader. We would particularly like to recruit non playing members as this would give us additional flexibility at concerts and the like where players are either pre-occupied, engaged or exhausted! Chris B

Tea & Tunes Prelimnary Band Concert Please put an advert in for this event for the Preliminary Band Concert on 5th November at St Michael's Church at 10am. There'll be a cake stall & lots of music to enjoy. Free entry! Ian

Parent and Player Representatives For those of you who are fairly new to Martlesham Brass, you may not be aware that you have both parent and player representation on our Main Committee. Parent representatives on the main committee are currently Joy Porter and Colin Hodge, one of whom can usually be found before practice in the church foyer. Parents who have any issues that they would like raised at Committee meetings, are encouraged to speak to their representatives, who will be more than happy to raise these issues within the committee. In addition each band and the beginners section have a player representative elected by their band each year. The player representatives also attend each committee meeting, and will raise any matters that you as players ask them to raise on your behalf. The player representatives are currently: Beginners section " Sarah Lodge, preliminary band " Felix Farquharson, intermediate band " Caroline King and main band - Chris Alexander.

Martlesham Brass Needs You! We are sure you will all be aware of the tremendous work carried out by the bandleaders on practice nights, at concerts, and at social and fundraising events. You may not however be quite so aware that working hard in the background, and supporting them tirelessly are the members of the Main Committee and Fundraising Committee. The Main Committee meets on a regular basis, normally the first Tuesday of each month. It’s members make the decisions which affect what direction Martlesham Brass moves in, where, when and on what we spend our money, and which events we will organise and take part in throughout the year. The committee members are elected annually at the AGM, which next year is to be held on Friday the 3rd February 2006. As many of you will know, many of our committee members have served us all well for a number of years now. What many of you may not know, is that our constitution does not normally allow any committee member to serve for more than a continuous period of 3 years in the same post on the Main committee. All committee members retire from office annually and are subject to re-election at the AGM. This therefore means that we will be looking for some new faces to join us after the next AGM. If anyone is interested in joining us, or is prepared to consider joining us on the committee next year, please let it be known to any of the current committee members, or in particular to your current parent representatives on the committee, Joy Porter or Colin Hodge. Further details regarding committee membership and the procedure for nomination s will be published in the newsletter in the next couple of months. Beware - the AGM creeps up very quickly once the carolling season and Christmas festivities are over!
