Making music fun in east anglia

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Martlesham Brass has always held her in great esteem and we will miss her dedication and constant care for us.
We have followed her example of making our organisation open and welcoming to all.

We look to the future when we can celebrate her life and that of our new sovereign, King Charles III.

MARTLESHAM BRASS NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2005

Opening the newsletter this month are the brave nine people who completed the charity abseil just after the last issue went out. You all did a great job! I know that Caroline especially was really nervous before hand (and kept reminding the rest of us of that fact) so all of us finishing (relatively) safely was great to see. A special mention should go to Will Meadows who managed to raise a massive 275 for the band. Perhaps next time we do it we can have a bit more enthuiasm from the rest of the band members and we can fill our 16 allocated spaces! Back to the present, hope you all restarting school goes well (as well as it can) and see you all soon. Chris

Help! Please...

Parents! We need you. Coming up (as you may already know) are the Birthday and Chrismas concerts. We need you to help us on the night with things like the raffle and refreshments, so that playing members can concentrate on playing. Please speak to Chris Beale if you’re interested in giving us a hand.

Auditions will bel held this and coming Fridays for the following positions in the main band:

  • Cornet

  • Euphonium / Baritone

  • Soprano Cornet

  • Percussion

Anyone interested should speak to Bruce ASAP.

Brett Baker Weekend all the way back in July was, as I’m sure the audience will agree, was a great triple tounging resounding success. Brett’s playing was out of this world, and all the bands who played with him sounded excellent. Well done to everyone; hopefully you enjoyed it and found Brett’s fantastic workshops helpful. Encore!

Uniform

If anyone thinks that they may need new uniform, please speak to Simon soon please " there will be an order sent soon. Please also ensure you get your instrument and uniform audits back this or next week please.

Mouthpieces

Please speak to your player rep or your bandleader if you think that your mouthpiece is old, too shallow or too small for you. We will be buying in a lot soon, so get in there quick.

9th Birthday Concert!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen of Martlesham Brass, may I take this opportunity to

invite you to Martlesham Brass' 9th Birthday Concert, to be held at the Kesgrave Community Centre on the 1st of October 2005.

For the not so bright of you out there (who know who you are - Cornets, Horns, Trombones, Basses and Percussion) this means that Martlesham Brass has now been entertaining the people of Suffolk for NINE YEARS!! They have been nine amazing years during which the Band have grown from 20 or so Brass players with no instruments to the award winning Martlesham Brass of today, with 4 Bands and 111 members. The 9th Birthday Concert is a chance to demonstrate and celebrate how far the Band has come in such a short time. Featuring performances from all four Bands this will be a Concert not to be missed!! Everyone you know should be there, as well as everyone you don't!!! The Concert will start at 7pm, tickets are just 2.50 for everyone over Primary School age and will be on sale at Band on a Friday as well as on the door (please ask your bandleader for details) and book early to avoid disappointment! There will be a raffle and refreshments. Please can everyone donate a raffle

prize, and any volunteers to help with the Raffle and Refreshments would be gratefully received - please talk to a Bandleader or member of the fundraising committee to volunteer. Players need to be there for 6.30pm, and anyone who is available to help set up please be there from 6pm - the more people there to help the easier it

will be and the more amazing the Concert will be!!
